The film shot by Riccardo De Cal, is a stratified confluence of images, drawings, photographs, memories, testimonies, voices, sounds; a “theatre of memory”.
The testimonies collected are all part of Carlo Scarpa’s life: collaborators, clients, friends. It is with these people that Scarpa confronted himself inside and outside the building site. It is with them that he discussed the solutions to be adopted, through a process of mutual enrichment. The various interpretations of the film mean that within the journey through the architectural spaces there are also other themes, such as the unfolding of time with the symbolic succession of day and night, barely broken by a late summer downpour.
The editing of the film sequences often leaves the interpretation of the objects suspended, no longer merely architectures, but fragments saturated with lyrical charge, and attempts a sort of translation between different languages that can be respectful of the pertinences and saliences of each.
In 2007, the municipality of Altivole contributed to the production of this documentary; a precise and courageous choice, aimed at putting the language of cinema at the service of the artistic-architectural dissemination of the cultural asset, thus broadening its communicative potential and target audience.
